Severna Park Elementary School's Premiere Drama Troupe
So, I was just wondering about. . . .
Questions from the Cast & Crew
Which are the best theatre groups and auditions for children in Annapolis? I'm amazed at the number of excellent local theatre venues for both adults and children. I'll start a separate page on upcoming auditions and venues in the near future.
SKITS: Are we doing plays such as Medieval Times such as Fairy Tales? Are we doing Fairy Tale plays such as Peter Pan, Little Red Riding Hood, The Boy Who Cried Wolf?
We did "Little Red Riding Hood" for our first skit and you all did a great job. We are going to be doing some more fairytales, too. When we meet on February 2, our skit is "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs." In the following weeks we'll be doing a Greek myth - "Apollo and Cupid," and a myth from Africa, "An African Story." Also, for the production we'll be doing two fables for Reader's Theatre. A fable is a story with a moral - or a lesson to learn. Mr. David, our stage manager, is adapting (turning a story into a play) the two fables for us!
From now on, I will sketch (or briefly tell) what the coming week's skit will be so you can read it ahead of time to. So look for the new website page titled "Skits."
AUDITIONS: What do we do in auditions and will all the cast get to be in the production? How will we know how to audition?
We have seven weeks of workshops to prepare the cast for auditions and the following rehearsals for the spring production. ONLY Troupe Severna cast members will be eligible to audition and ALL cast members will have a part(s) in the show. The function of the audition is to give the cast members experience at auditioning and to give the directors the opportunity to cast the show.
We are doing four separate pieces for the production - a reader's theatre piece, a skit, a short 3-act play, and a musical finale. Everyone one will be given a part. If cast members want to take on any remaining roles, he/she can - provided he/she fulfills the requirements of the role and has parental permission.
When we start rehearsing, we'll be splitting the cast members by the show(s) they are in. Some will rehearse only on Monday, some only on Fridays. With parental permission and based on the show's needs, a cast member may be in both the Friday and Monday cast.
The cast will be fully trained and briefed on audition procedure prior to auditions. Cast members don't have to memorize or prepare anything if they don't want to. We will have simple scripts to read from and a simple song to sing. Cast members who wish to audition for acting parts only may do so.
Cast members may audition for specific roles, but no one is guaranteed any part until officially cast after auditions. Auditioners will all be judged on their acting, singing, and dancing using the same criteria. Judges score sheets are confidential and will not be distributed or shared with anyone else, for any reason - ever. Decisions of the audition judges and director are final and non-negotiable. The cast members will be well-prepared for this reality, so please be supportive of their professionalism.
All audition information and audition forms will be
distributed the week before auditions. In addition to the director, asst.
director, choreographer, and music director, we will have one or two experienced
local Annapolis actors sit on the audition panel. By the time auditions
arrive, the cast is well prepared. While there will doubtless be a lot of
fluttery nerves, I have every confidence they will all do extremely well and
will have fun. Remember - auditions will not be used to cut anyone.
All TS cast members will be cast.
